A large Canadian hospital contacted us in 2016 to explore alternatives to liquid nitrogen dewars for its growing mass spectrometry laboratories. The facility had eleven instruments, primarily from AB Sciex and Agilent, with eight additional units planned.

Because space limitations prevented the installation of a bulk liquid nitrogen tank, we determined that on-site nitrogen generation was the most cost-effective option. We supplied and installed a high-purity PSA nitrogen generator for mass spectrometry with 100% redundancy in a maintenance penthouse.

The system was designed to meet the laboratory’s current and future nitrogen needs, with a projected payback of 18 months and annual savings of approximately $150,000.
